As the
capital of China, Beijing is located in
northern China, close to Tianjin Municipality
and partially surrounded by Hebei Province. The city covers an area of
more than 16,410 square kilometers (6,336 square miles) and has a
population of 14.93 million people.
Beijing is a city with
four distinct seasons. Its best is late spring and autumn. But autumn is
taken as the golden tourist season of the year since there is sometimes
in the spring of recent years, a yellow wind. We suggest tourists visit
Beijing during the
months of May, September, and October when people can enjoy bright
sunshine and blue skies. An abundance of international class
performances are presented in May. If you like winter, you will have
other chances to appreciate another landscape of Beijing. After skiing
in Beihai and
viewing the snowy sights on West Hill, enjoying
the steaming hotpot is the best choice, which is really the fun of tour
in Beijing. Please
keep warm and remember to bring your down garments and sweaters when you
visit Beijing in
the winter.
How can
one city boast so many phenomenal places? Beijing's long and
illustrious history started some 500,000 years ago. It is here
that the ancestors of modern Homo sapiens, Peking men, lived in
caves. Records show that Beijing has been an
inhabited city for more than three thousand years and has endured
invasions by warlords and foreign powers, devastating fires, the rise
and fall of powerful imperial dynasties and has emerged each time as a
strong and vibrant city. For more than 800 years, Beijing was a capital
city - from the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368) to the Ming (1368 - 1644) and
Qing (1644 - 1911) dynasties. Thirty-four emperors have lived and ruled
the nation in Beijing and it has
been an important trading city from its earliest days.
Although now Beijing is a modern
and fashionable city complete with a full 21st Century vitality, you can
experience authentic Beijing life and
become acquainted with 'old Beijing' by exploring its many teahouses,
temple fairs, Beijing's Hutong and Courtyard and enjoy
the Peking Opera. Add any or all of these to your Beijing Eco-tour and
you will leave with a feeling of special appreciation in your heart for
this ancient city that has truly seen it all and tells its story with
matchless grace, charm and vigor.
With
the biggest central square in the world - Tian'anmen Square,
the Forbidden City
that is the largest and best-preserved imperial palace complex, a
superbly preserved section of the Great Wall,as well as
the largest sacrificial complex in the world - the Temple of Heaven, Beijing attracts both
domestic and foreign visitors who all come to wonder at its century-old
history and unique cultural relics.
Dwelling too much on the historical past of Beijing may give
tourists the false impression that it is little more than an ancient
city in style but this is definitely not so! Strolling around Beijing, you'll find
it has much in common with any other great metropolis elsewhere in
today's world. There are towering skyscrapers; busy shopping malls and
an endless stream of traffic that makes the city much the same as
others. The most famous and popular commercial circles and commercial
pedestrian streets are predominantly located near the Yansha Shopping
Mall, Tiananmen
and Wangfujing
Street, Guomao Shopping Mall, Qianmen Street and
Xidan Street,
etc. However, although you will
find multinational chains with their own brands to offer, nowhere else
on earth will you find such a variety of gourmet Chinese restaurants
offering the very best of the eight different styles of Chinese cuisine as
well as western style dishes. Modern hotels abound, each offering the
highest standards of service and convenience.
After a
day's Beijing
Eco-tours, night time can hold other surprises for you. These can
vary from traditional performances such as the Beijing Opera, acrobatics and
martial arts to modern ones including concerts, ballroom dancing, pubs
and clubs. Each and every one has its individual enchantment for the
tourist. No description of our capital city is complete without mention
of the friendly people who throng the streets. Everywhere you will
encounter smiling faces and a warm welcome, especially from the children
who love to say 'Hello!' All these things add up to truly make your
visit a cultural experience of a lifetime.
Beijing (Peking) Opera With its fascinating and artistic
accompanying music, singing and costumes, the Peking Opera is China's
national opera. Full of Chinese cultural facts, the opera presents the
audience with an encyclopedia of Chinese culture, as well as unfolding
stories, beautiful paintings, exquisite costumes, graceful gestures and
martial arts. Since Peking Opera enjoys a higher reputation than other
local operas, almost every province in China has more than one Peking
Opera troupes. Opera is so popular among Chinese people, especially
seniors, that even "Peking Opera Month" has been declared.Peking Opera has a 200-year-long history. Its main melodies
originated from Xipi and Erhuang in Anhui and Hubei respectively and, over
time, techniques from many other local operas were
incorporated. It is believed that Peking Opera gradually came
into being after 1790 when the famous four Anhui opera troupes came to
Beijing. Peking Opera underwent fast development during the reign of
Emperor Qianlong and the notorious Empress Dowager Cixi under the imperial
patron, eventually becoming more accessible to the common
people...

as one of China's finest views. The far side of the mountain forms
one side of Tiger Leaping Gorge. You might be asked to purchase
tickets for electrical car, which they call it as "Little Green
frog". It's not worth it. You would miss the 20 minute walk on a
wood trail which was very enjoyable. Also, renting a coat is not
necessary during the late spring and summer season. You would find
it a big burden later. On you way to Yu Long Snow Mountain, you may
stop by at the Dong Ba Valley culture

A
cultural show demonstrating the traditions and lifestyles of the
Naxi, Yi and Bai peoples of the area. The show takes place inside
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Park at 3500m in an outdoor theater
specifically designed to showcase the mountain which is used as a
backdrop. The production itself was designed by ZhangYimou (director
of Hero, House of Flying Daggers), a cast of over 500 people, and a
number of horses. However, the show does have a plot.
Is located on the
southern slope of Yulong (Jade Dragon) snow mountain and it is a
part of the Lashihai provincial level Alpine Wetlands Nature
Reserve. The elevation at Wenhai is 3,100 meters. The Wenhai area is
an ideal location for visitors to explore and learn about
northwestern Yunnan's dramatic grological formations and rich
biodiversity. The unique climate and soil in the area nourished a
variety of vegetative covers and plant species. Including old-growth
forests, shrubs and meadows. There are also unique wild flowers that
bloom all four seasons. Including over twenty species of
rhododendrons. Wenhai is also home to a variety of economically
viable mushrooms and precious medicinal herbs.
There are many
route choices to reach Wenhai from the Lijiang old town ,the
distance is between 20 to 25 kilometers long. On each of the route,
you can ride in a car for some distance, and the rest of the
distance you can hike or horse-back ride up to Wenhai are mostly
uphills. The elevation rises fron 2,400 meters in Lijiang to 3,100
meters in Wenhai are meters im Wenhai. Beginning the hike from Yuhu
or Longquan (a.k.a. Shuhe),most visitors take about 4 hours to get
to Wenhai.
There is a
variety of extraordinary scenery aling the hiking trail to Wenhai,
and with the exception of a few places, the vegetative covers of the

A small
village in Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, part of Lijiang city,
well-known for its Jade Dragon Snow Mountain range. It is the
original settlement of the Naxi people who came to the greater
Lijiang Valley over a thousand years ago. Made up of at least 12
smaller villages, the main village is Sanyuan, which has one main stone street called of
course, Baisha Street.
It has a
typical Chinese "old-town" tourist setup, consisting of a stone
paved street with a mixture of Chinese trinket sellers-shops and
several quaint caf¨¦s to stop at relax, have a drink some Yunnan
coffee eat a Naxi Pie and avoid the crowded Lijiang. A great escape
from Lijiang Old-town tourist trap, only 12 km north of town, you
can rent a bike and get there in about 40 minutes. You should
consider staying a few nights, in a Naxi family¡¯s courtyard, no
"hotel-Hostels" here. Even though almost everything costs you a
ticket price to do in China these days you can do many things here
for free! Like hike the local mountains through the high alpine
botanical garden and search for herbs on your way to the Jade Dragon
Lake, the backside of Snow Jade Dragon Mountain. Visit some of the
temples or traditional Naxi houses of the area before they are gone.
If you look on a
map of China, you will notice, sandwiched between Thailand and
Tibet, a Chinese province called Yunnan. Zoom in more closely and let your eye follow the line
of the Yangtze River as it curves in a distinctive hook marking the
great First Bend of China's longest river.
As China's Mother River turns
sharply northwards at the First Bend, its waters flow placidly a
further 30 kilometers until confronted by a narrow gorge, Tiger
Leaping Gorge. As it enters the
gorge, the previously placid river writhes and roars for 17
kilometers through a series of rapids too dangerous for rafting (ask
Richard Bangs!). On the eastern bank above the surging river rise
the imposing granite peaks of the Jade Dragon Snow
Mountains...
A sub-alpine lake
within the Lashihai Nature Reserve (Situated along the southeastern
slopes of the towering Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5500 meters) and
surrounded by mountains on all sides, the diamond-shaped basin of
Lashihai Watershed is a spectacular setting for exploring the
intricate relationship between the abundant natural resources of
this land and the people who live off it.), is a habitat for
migrating birds, most notably the endangered black stork. Each year,
for reasons not yet completely known, Wenhai undergoes a
transformation from sub-alpine lake to grazing grasslands. Beginning
in early spring, the lake gradually disappears, believed to drain
through underground limestone formations to Lashi Lake, about 500
meters below. Then, with the return of the summer rainy season,
Wenhai Lake begins to fill again. By fall it reaches its full size,
ready for the arrival of migratory birds in late December. The
watershed¡¯s highland forests support a wide variation of plant and
animal species, including protected raptors, forest wildlife,
traditional medicinal plants and treasured fungi. In spring, the
region¡¯s famous rhododendrons ¨C over 15 species -- burst into bloom,
creating mountains of colorful flowers.
2690 metres
above sea level located at the borders between Sichuan and Yunnan
Provinces, covers an area of 50 square kilometers with the average
water depth of 45 meters and the transparency 11 meters. In the lake
there are five islands, three peninsulas and a sea- wall islet. Here
everything looks as if it has not been disturbed by human beings at
all and still remains in its primitive state.
Boating in the
lake, you can feel that the surface of the water is as smooth as a
mirror and the water as blue as the sky. The slow ¨C canoe in the
blue lake, the beautiful Mosuo girls in their ethnic clothes and the
Mosuo folk songs will show you something of primitive simplicity and
peace. Lugu
Lake has the fame of a fabled
abode of immortals and ¡°Plateau Pearl" for its pure and virgin land
of natural landscapes...
The Mosuo people
living here still keep their matriarchal society system. The "Axia
visiting marriage'' system (actually no marriage system at all)is
called the fossil for the study of the development of the human
being society .The members of the big matriarchal families live in
harmony, love dearly and care for one an other.
