Trekking Yading National Park - Yunnan / Sichuan Border Southwest China | ||||||||
| This stunning nature
reserve is located in the southern part of Dabpa ( Chinese: Daocheng )
County in south- western Sichuan and a strong contender for the
'Shangri-La' title. Within the park are unspoilt vegetation and native
forests, very isolated Tibetan villages, a small monastery, and sacred
lakes. There are three sacred mountains here: Chenresig (Avalokitesvara,
6032 meters), Jambeyang (Manjusri, 5958 m), and Chanadorje (Vajrapani,
5958 m).
These three mountains have never been climbed and their technical difficulty have so far defeated all those who have tried - primarily western climbers. They are sacred to Tibetan Buddhists for they are the representation of the compassion, wisdom, and energy that are essential to reaching enlightenment and the end of suffering. Buddhists believe that it would be a sacrilege to climb them and a kora or pilgrimage around one or all of the mountains brings great merit. The scenery here easily rivals that of national parks of the west such as Yellowstone and Yosemite in terms of spectacular, pristine mountain scenery. The trek around the mountains which follow the path of the kora will be one of the main highlights of any trip to this part of SW China. |

| "South of the Clouds" is the literal meaning of Yunnan, and stretching from the high Tibetan Plateau down to the subtropical climes bordering Southeast Asia, it is an amazingly diverse place. Yunnan is the most biologically diverse area in the temperate world, and contains a host of rare and endangered wildlife that will delight any naturalist. Located at the crossroads of Tibet, China and Southeast Asia, it is home to a mix of ethnic groups - from Naxi and Bai to Pumi, Dai, Ake, and Hani. The temperature is mild and pleasant throughout most of the year, but can get quite cold in the winter at higher elevations. Southern Yunnan also experiences a rainy season from May to October... | Colorfull Yunnan | ||||||||

The term Silk Road does not refer to a single, clearly delineated road or highway, but rather denotes a network of trails and trading posts, oases, and emporia scattered all across Central Asia. All along the way, branch routes led to destinations off to the side of the main route, with one especially important branch leading to northwestern India and thus to other routes throughout the subcontinent. The Silk Road network is generally thought of as stretching from an eastern terminus at the old Chinese capital city of Chang'an (now Xi'an, just west of the great bend where the Yellow River emerges into the North China Plain) to westward termini at Byzantium (Constantinople), Antioch, Damascus, and other Middle Eastern cities. But beyond those end-points, other trade networks distributed Silk Road goods throughout the Mediterranean world and Europe, on one end, and throughout eastern Asia on the other... |

north-south splits in what is today's northwestern Yunnan and eastern
Tibet. The Great Nujiang Canyon starts from Cawarong at Zayul County in
